Journey to Asia with Wikipedia Asian Month 2019!

Get set ready for the biggest article writing contest of the year. November is right on the corner and Wikipedia Asian Month is back again this year to celebrate Asia with you. Wikipedia Asian Month 2019 invites you to take a month journey to Asian culture, cuisine, languages, history, and much more in a month-long article writing contest.

Started in 2015, Wikipedia Asian Month has successfully completed four iterations with 50 language wiki supporting the project in the last four years with over 27142 articles. In  2018, we got over 7108 articles with total 767 contributors from 63 languages.

The highest contributor of Wikipedia Asian Month 2018 was Mani Raj Paul from Punjab, India who created over 278 articles in Hindi and Punjabi language for Wikipedia Asian Month contest. The inspiration behind Mani’s passion for his contribution comes from his love for creating resourceful content for students around the globe.

The theme of the contest is anything and everything related to Asia. The contestant who creates more than 4 articles becomes eligible to receive a postcard from other Asian countries. But there is a catch for article submission! The participant must not write about their home country but can write about any Asian country instead.

If you are not from Asia and wondering if you can participate in this project too? The answer is yes! In 2018, the largest contributing community was German Wikipedia with 63 users creating 623 articles for Wikipedia Asian Month contest!

What’s the criteria for the contest? Apart from following the Wikipedia manual of style and policies of your home Wikipedia, the article should have minimum 3000 bytes and 300 words and it needs to be submitted to the fountain tool which is set up each year by User:Le Loy.

And lastly, the contributors who create the most number of articles in their home Wikipedia for the contest, get a chance to become the ambassador of Wikipedia Asian Month from that community.

Countdown has started with over 11 days to go! Get yourself signed up as local organizer on our Meta page if you are interested in becoming a local co-ordinator for this project from your home Wiki. Wikipedia Asian Month is Back!

Wikipedia Asian Month is back! One of the biggest article writing contests of the year, it is a month-long online edit-a-thon where different language Wikipedias take part and conduct the contest locally in their own language.

After successful three editions of ‘Wikipedia Asian Month’ the fourth one is on its way this November. More than 2000 Wikimedians have taken part in Wikipedia Asian Month in the last three years, creating over 20,500 high-quality Wikipedia articles under this contest. Last year, a total of 51 projects of Wikipedia and Wikisource took part creating around 7,429 articles with the participation of over 694 Wikimedians.

The criteria for this contest is very simple. In order to submit an article for the contest, it should have minimum 3000 bytes and 300 words. The subject of these Wikipedia articles has to be related to Asia whereas participation to this contest is not limited to the Asian community. And for contestants to receive a postcard, minimum four articles need to submit. Those who do fulfill these criteria would receive a postcard from an Asian country. The best part? You get a chance to be an ambassador from your language community! The participant who creates the most articles in their respective community would be honored as Ambassador from that community.

So get geared up for this year’s iteration of Wikipedia Asian Month and register yourself as a local organizer on our Meta page.
